Robert K Johns - Bio

The author is Cornish and a retired businessman whose grandfather was a skilled miner and tunneller in World War One. On researching his life, he discovered that he had been with the 10th Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry before being transferred along with over 200 of his colleagues, all Cornish miners, to form the 251st Tunnelling Company RE, this company unusually being formed at Hayle in Cornwall and not on the Western Front. This transfer of men or the story of the 251st had never been written about previously. Such was the success of the Company coupled with the fact that it was largely manned by Cornishmen for the duration of the War, the author felt that he should use his extensive research skills and record their success so that their story could now be told.
